Archived Newsletters 2006, 2005 A message from our President President Chauncey Blackford Hello, fellow members and new members. It was an eventful year in 2007. We dedicated the pond at the Indiana Deaf School. It was very nice and the children and teachers made a beautiful lunch for us in the courtyard. We cut the ribbon and placed our sign at the pond and several of the staff thanked us for their new pond. We visited the autistic school, Damar, where we will be building a pond for them this year. They have completed their new administration building and we hope to get started in April on their pond. We also had Japanese visitors, Yoshi Takada, and Hiroshi Toyama from Niigata, Japan who presented the club with 2 books with DVD’s on the history of Nishikigoi. We took them to dinner and to some of the member’s ponds and had a wonderful time. Congratulations go to Shelton and Taber Baise for being awarded the Koi Persons of the Year. Our pond tour was a great success in 2007 and “Thanks Again” goes to all of the officers and members involved for there dedication to our club projects. We were honored to have with us Taro Kodama from Kodama Koi and Hiroshi Toyama as a vendor and we were able to purchase quality Koi and fish food from Niigata. He also donated to the club several koi and we had a lottery at Ken Lau’s farm and it was a lot of fun and of course, we all went home with some nice fish! We donated 12 of Taro’s fish to the Garfield Park Observatory for their new pond. Thanks to Taro and Kodama Koi!! Our 2008 pond tour proves to be even bigger and better with several club members already hard at work. We will have our vendor exhibit at the Stonegate Country Club in Zionsville, IN on June 14th and 15th and we have a much larger air conditioned building and it is extremely nice! Several members volunteered to work at the ZNA Koi Show at the Indiana State Fair grounds last year. We signed up several new members and I would like to welcome all of you to the club. The Flower and Patio show was well received and we signed up several new names for our mailing list. Thanks to all of the members that volunteer because without you we could not do all of our wonderful projects. We have several members who are in the process of becoming KHA advisors this year. Good Luck to all of you! Thanks to Shelton and Taber Baise for our speakers last year and also in 2008. I look forward to all of the education they will provide to our club members. The BBQ in September was great again and thanks to our hosts the Blackford’s. The elections were held in October and we have a new Vice President, Bill Nave, a new Secretary, Tanda Suiter, and a new Member at Large, Taber Baise. Congratulations to all of you! Thanks also to the all of the past officers for all their hard work. I am looking forward to the coming year and hope that everyone is getting ready for spring. We have our community project in progress in Greenwood at the Damar school, the Flower and Patio Show, and the 2008 Pond tour Extravaganza planned this year. Come join the fun, learn, and share with fellow Koi hobbyist. Hope to see you at our meetings!! Chauncey Blackford President Indiana Koi and Water Garden Club 765-378-0086
